Rev. Jack Austin (1917-1993) first encountered Zuiken Sensei's translation of the Tannisho as early as 1949. Following this encounter, Rev. Austin initiated an extensive correspondence with Zuiken which led to letters being sent almost every week on the subject of Jodo Shinshu and Buddhism more generally. Zuiken's responses to Rev. Austin over the years amounted to over three hundred letters.
